Rockdale Rotary Club's 2nd Annual Pints for Polio will be held at The East Bell Taphouse on Sunday, October 27. This event is a fundraiser for Rotary International's mission to eradicate polio. It is FREE to attend, and attendees will have several opportunities for contributing to the event's cause, such as: armstretch tickets, pie/cake auction, cash and carry baked goods, pie in the face tickets, donation buckets, and if you have a competitive streak, you can enter a team into our cornhole tourney! Proceeds from Pints for Polio events go to Rotary International's Polio Plus Program. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation matches every dollar raised 2:1. This event raised well over $3,000 last year. Our goal for 2024 is $5,000! Come spend the afternoon with us and bring your friends! Kids are welcome (there will be a coloring station), and make sure to buy a few pie in the face tickets. If your ticket is drawn, a Rotary board member of your choice will be the recipient of the face full of a whipped cream pie! (Rotary International launched a global effort to immunize the world’s children against polio in 1985, followed by the establishment of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) in 1988. When the GPEI started, polio paralysed more than 1000 children worldwide every day. Since then, more than 2.5 billion children have been immunized against polio thanks to the cooperation of more than 200 countries and 20 million volunteers. According to WHO data, as of July 2024 there were 12 total reported cases in two countries (Afghanistan and Pakistan), so there is still work to do and money to be raised.) |

Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.
Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.
Funds raised from this tournament will 100% go directly to polio eradication and will be matched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
